Fandom Talk

Bo Dallas throwing shade like a fucking boss. I loved everything about that seg.
RANDY, YOU NEED TO GET A GRIP (and not on Seth's hair unless it's in a kinky way because you and him have crazy sexual tension.)
Anyway, I've got like fifteen mins left in the show so we can talk about everything but Ryback vs I forget and Seth vs Dolph.

Roman wears black, like, tactical gear (as you might've seen) and one of his signature moves is call the spear. Good fancasting, lol.
Gunnerkrigg Court
A lot of fans seem to think that Anthony's doing some sort of mind control over Annie, but I don't really see that being the case. What do you all think?
I met Tom at Mocca a few weeks ago and he was such a delight, he chatted with us about the comic a bit and was so great! Also we were looking through his stuff and saw a pin with Mort on it, and we went "Nooo Mooort" all sad, and Tom just goes "haha, yeah." So that was a thing.
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court
(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 12:31 am (UTC)(link)I have a pet theory that he's something else masquerading as Anthony, but I have no narrative proof to back that up, just a lingering hunch. I want to hug Annie so hard right now. It's so awful to her expectations of family being crushed in total like that. Kat's reaction has been exactly mine. Maybe this is a very complicated test of some sort?
Ha ha, that's awesome about meeting Tom. I'd love to shake his hand and thank him for such amazing work.
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court
I totally feel you on that, though. Before Anthony showed up, I was honestly kind of rooting for him to be a complex but likable character. What we saw of him in flashbacks really resonated with me. If this is really him I don't know that he can make up for what he's doing, even if it is a test or he has some noble reason for doing it. Annie's reactions at this point just too closely mirror those of an abuse victim for me to be okay with Anthony anymore.
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court
But I'm mad for her and hope kat can help out!
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court
Re: Gunnerkrigg Court
I don't really see things as being Anthony doing mind control, I think he's just exposing Annie to more stress than she can deal with right now. I guess we'll see. I do know that he's the worst and I want to poke him in the back of the head at all times.
Also I've said it before but I basically hadn't been reading the comic for several years and went on an archives binge RIGHT BEFORE this chapter started (seriously, the first page of the chapter was the most recent page when I finished reading through), and I don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 02:23 am (UTC)(link)Re: Gunnerkrigg Court
I don't know what Anthony's deal is with all this, but there is absolutely no explanation I will ever accept as an excuse for his behavior toward Annie. Having her repeat the previous year because of her cheating is literally the only thing that does not have me wishing Zimmy could give another etheric fire punch to the face.
I'm also very, very worried about what might happen to Ray once Anthony has him.
NCIS New Orleans

Re: NCIS New Orleans
(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)I also liked NCIS LA and then just stopped watching. I think it was more of a scheduling thing for me and then I just got behind. Same for H50. I'll get to them eventually.
NCIS NO is just as pro-military as the other shows.
As far as characters, I'm not sure. Until the last episodes, I thought the coroner was playing up the wise black woman trope and that was annoying. But they finally gave her a bit on an arc and a good meaty episode focused on her so I'm feeling more positive about that. I really enjoy the computer tech. I thought the CSI tech was trying too hard to be a "goofball" character but he has slowly endeared himself to me. Both techs are nerds and have great banter with each other. The others are kind of blah but I do like that there's more of a family-feel to this unit (like the main guy keeps cooking dinner for everyone, etc.).
My criticisms are that they play up the New Orleans setting too hard. I've seen other shows/movies that take place in New Orleans and show the local color without beating me over the head with it. And King (the MC) kind of has a Horatio Caine vibe. I don't want to necessarily compare him to Gibbs/Hetty/Horatio but I feel like he's got this super-specialness to him that he hasn't fully earned. But that's not something that comes up all the time so I can usually ignore it.
You might be interested in the storylines of the two younger agents. The guy's main arc is that he's looking for his bi-polar brother and now has to take care of him. And the woman froze in a shoot (because someone she cared about committed suicide) but her main storyarc is settling into New Orleans.
I will say that the cases and episodes are pretty standard fair. Nothing's really wowed or intrigued me. They're solid but nothing to write home about.
Criminal Minds + Spinoff
(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 12:22 am (UTC)(link)Ugh, Hotch needs a hug. The whole thing with his father-in-law is so sad. Jack is growing like a weed though.
I love Garcia and Reid's little moment with the breakfast he brought her. And I'm super happy that Reid asked out that surveillance lady. That's what he needs. I hope it turns out well for him.
I love Anderson and that they brought back "Ecklie" from CSI. I love that most about CM that it brings back small parts like that so the world feels more fleshed out.
SPOILER:
It sounds like JJ is going to have another baby. So, her and Kate might both be pregnant. I think that would be cute. Also, depending on how it's done, I'm happy they're going to circle back to the season premiere. I wanted some closure on that.
Re: Criminal Minds + Spinoff
Hotch always needs a hug. He goes through the worst things.
I've always been pretty meh on Reid. He's probably my least favorite of the main cast, so I don't really care one way or another who he's dating.
I'm wondering why they're having Kate pregnant so soon. Is the actress pregnant? But, anyway, we'll see how it plays out. To be honest, I'm sick of pregnancy storylines in general on all my favorite shows. They keep cropping up this year and last year and enough is enough.
Re: Criminal Minds + Spinoff
(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 12:58 am (UTC)(link)(Lol, realism in television.)
It sounds like both actresses are pregnant. That's what I like about CM. They don't put a pregnancy storyline in unless an actress is actually pregnant, and it's never treated as a sweeps storyline with all the unnecessary drama. JJ's first pregnancy was pretty lowkey - pretty much the right amount of time for someone in your office being pregnant but still having a job to do. I expect the same this time around.
I'm not a huge Reid-fan but I do generally like him. But after the thing with Maeve, it's nice to see him moving on. I don't know if you saw the surveillance lady but I thought she would be great to pair him with. The other great thing about CM is that they keep up with SOs so if he does end up dating someone, we'll probably see her occasionally and I'd be okay with this lady. If they never mention it again, I'd be okay with that too though.
(I'd have to say Garcia is my least favorite. I mean, I don't dislike her but sometimes she seems too cartoony and her dialogue can be clunky and she can be a bit of a busy-body. I hate whenever any of the characters stick their noses into other people's business. Prentiss was the worst for that, but she's gone now so I think Garcia's up for me.)

(Anonymous) 2015-04-22 02:24 am (UTC)(link)Re: Star Wars: Rebels
That said, I'm so hoping S2 gets it together. I really want to learn more specifics about Zeb's backstory and see more development for him outside of being the bruiser and/or comic foil to Ezra, though I might be biased, because in spite of my feelings for the show as a whole, I still have a soft spot for Zeb. (I even got to meet Steve Blum at ECCC, which was nice)
And hell, Sabine (whom I'm still kind of indifferent towards) could use a hell of a lot more character development while we're at it. As it stands right now, Zeb and Sabine are pretty much non-existent/filler characters while the story is focused on Kanan and Ezra. I guess that's one of the things I miss the most about Clone Wars: while it had a core cast of characters (Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, and Obi-Wan), it was none the less an ensemble show, so there was a lot to see/do/develop. I get what they're trying to do with 'Rebels', but eh.
That said, I'm hoping S2 will be a lot better, especially since they now have 22 episodes to do a lot more stuff in, but at the same time, I'm not really holding my breath.
