What's wrong with gemsonas. Did I miss something. Is making ocs suddenly not allowed? :/

Tbh I think the huge hate bonner fandomsecrets has with steven universe and its fandom is kinda hilarious. I mean wow way to overeact.

I don't think it's so much 'making OCs is not allowed' (frankly, I'm over making fan characters in general myself these days), so much as it is the sheer volume of them. It is, admittedly, a lot like the OC/FC avalanche that came after My Little Pony, so I guess it boils down to your opinion on that whole aspect.

And tbh, I think the "hate bonner" is something that's been building up for a while now, and now that we've had a couple secrets expressing frustration/disappointment with the fandom, a lot of people probably feel it's "safe" enough to come forward and voicing similar opinions with the fandom as well and not have to worry about alienating friends who may be really into it and/or get anon hate over Tumblr. I've seen it happen with popular stuff like the MCU in general, Sherlock, Supernatural, MLP, et al. It's just how things go.

I don't have a problem with gemsonas from an outside perspective but if I liked SU I'd probably find them annoying just because when I'm searching for something in a fandom I really don't want to find a bunch of people's OCs.

I don't have a problem with OCs but being flooded with them can be annoying when you're not into it.

I tumblrsavior'd "gemsona" almost instantly after getting into the SU fandom - that's an easy thing to do.
For reasons entirely unrelated to gemsonas, I've also gotten infinitely more liberal with the "ignore user" button after I started going to the SU related tags on Tumblr... which is a lot less easy than blocking gemsonas, since I have to block each ludicrous or wanky blog individually, and seems like there's no end to them.
