Totally agree. I feel that way when people tag fic as having "POC" or "POC character," as well.

Every time I see that I get the impression the writer is showing off how progressive and brave they are. 'I'm so speshul, I wrote a fic with black people in it! Yay me!'

Or "chromatic character". Looking at you, kink_bingo comm.

I saw that on a fic once, what does it mean though? It made my brain go, "Wait... are there monochromatic characters? Characters from black and white movies? I don't know what's going on anymore..."
bur: WW!Link getting swamped by little piggies. Adorable. (Link with piggies)

That is my back button/red flag. It automatically makes me assume whatever is inside that fic is insufferable, and that the writer must love the smell of their own farts. Just shove your non-white/non-Protestant character in the fic and be done with it. Don't wave flags around going, "LOOK HOW AMAZING AND INCLUSIVE I AM LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME".

How then are people who want to find stories on AO3 with characters of color supposed to sort on the tag if no one uses it because gasp! you might think they are insufferable using the tag because unlike 99% of slash the focus of the story is a character of color? Until such time as things become more equitable, the tag is necessary.

I see nothing wrong with identifying things for people who want to find them.
