Re: counting calories is dumb

ayrt

I'm not saying you can't do it without counting

I'm arguing against the idea that "counting at all is dumb"

I don't, but some people need to and it helps them, so what's the fuss

I suspect that the "fuss" is related to the rather long discussion about weight loss earlier, where it became apparent that the OP was focusing way too much on calorie counting. When calorie counting reaches an obsessive level, it hurts you more than it helps. You get bogged down in the details ("I only ate 1230 calories today, why did I gain two pounds this week???") and get frustrated. Frustration makes it easier to fall off the wagon and give up.

Which is dumb, I'm saying

"alcoholics exist so drinking is dumb"
"overeaters exist so eating is dumb"

Everything in moderation, or everything is dumb

counting calories is pretty dumb though, especially since very minor amounts of calories (ie say even an extra bite of apple) continually going over will cause weight gain and causes additional stress on the dieters making them more likely to quit. never mind that many diets are incredibly nutritionally unbalanced.

unless you have something that doesn't allow to feel full, it's better to design a diet that makes you feel full and sasified so you're not tempted to overeat in the first place than stop eating when you're starving
