I see this stuff annoyingly often in other fandoms. Especially the Chanuka thing, ugh. I love Chanuka, but it is not NEARLY as meaningful as... almost all other holidays.

It also always annoys me when Jews are written how basically all tenets of faith and all the mitzvahs tend to be erased, because hey, it's awkward. No shit it's awkward, that's what Judaism's about! While it's true that different streams within Judaism have chosen different things to keep/emphasize/etc., the people writing this stuff typically never inquire about what might be important to a Jew in that situation.

(I once saw a fic where they had the Jewish character do some sexy scarification of Hebrew letters. It was so gross to me.)
