I actually find it soothing watching grown men flip their shit in fear. It makes me feel better about whatever's bothering me.

In one of the ones I saw, dude knocked his webcam over, THEN knocked his drink on top of it! It led to a lot of frenzied swearing and an ominous black screen. Other great moments are when some weird sound in real life spooks the player.

It does me too. That's a bit weird, right? Delighting in someone else's fear?

OH WELL.

I now want to spend my evening watching horror let's plays. God, they're fun...

Do you happen to remember which LP it was that the knocked webcam happened in? If you don't no biggie. (Don't spend a lot of time looking for it or anything!)

I don't think it's weird. It'd be one thing if the players weren't enjoying their fear, but since they are, I enjoy their enjoyment of being scared! ^_^ Because I know they aren't getting really hurt.

I'm sorry, I can't remember! It was a Markiplier one, that's all I remember. T_T And it was a slow burn kind of Let's Play... Outlast, maybe? Or Misao? I've watched so many lately, it could be any of them really...

Yea, that's a good point. Even when I complain about how scary a game is, there's some part of me that's enjoying it or I wouldn't bother.

Knowing that it's Markiplier is helpful, thanks! I've been going through his Five Nights at Freddy's ones. They aren't the scariest (and the game is sort of boring to watch, outside the jump scares) but I enjoy the story of the games and his constant frustration is great.

I watched someone else's Outlast LP (it was beautiful, and tbh I screamed and jumped a good bit during that one myself), but I should probably watch Marks too! Haven't heard of Misao, but now I'll probably check it out. Thanks!

Misao is an RPGMaker horror game; I really enjoy those!

Five Nights at Freddy's is really cool to me, even though jump scares are AWFUL! And it's like Jump Scare: The Game. I ended up liking that better than Outlast, which didn't keep my attention so much.

I also like watching LotusPrince, who is really understated. I've never heard him scream or anything; at most, maybe a, "Whoa!" He's more of an analytical player than a screamy flailing one, so he and Markiplier strike a good balance for me! :D

I'm not sure I've ever watched an RPGMaker horror game...but I love RPG's and I love horror games, so it sounds like a good mix!

FNAF has a shitton of jump scares, yea. It is just a massive series of jump scares, and I think that's why I'm kind of eh about it outside of the narrative. (Jump scares do get me, but past a certain point they lose steam.) I loved Outlast, but I think that's because the tension during certain sections of the game was outstanding and kept me on the edge of my seat.

I will have to check them out too! I've never heard of them, but am always open to new LPers! Thanks for the rec! (Sometimes it's just nice to enjoy the scenery and focus on what's actually going on than listen to cursing and screaming.)

RPGmaker makes little old-fashioned 2D games that feel very mid-90s. Ib, Witch's House, and Yume Nikki are all RPGmaker horror games. ^_^ I like them a lot, because it forces the designer to scare you with something other than dark lighting and gore. I really like seeing how the designers work around that!

FNAF is a neat idea, but jump scares don't lose effectiveness with us. We jump every time! It can be annoying, but with FNAF, I learned to FEAR being startled. That's why I thought it was more effective than other jump scares; it didn't just startle me, it made me dread and FEAR being startled!

LotusPrince isn't as well known, I think. He also has a very soothing, calming voice to listen to! He likes to point out trivia and development bits of the game, and get all the little thingy things. I really enjoy his style of Let's Play, even if sometimes he doesn't cut as much as he should. I feel like I get to learn about the game as he plays it! We got introduced to his stuff because he did the American McGee's Alice games and they're pretty good.

Makes sense! A lot of games fall into that catagory, which I don't always hate, those things can be effective, but it's nice when someone takes the time to make something that feels less cliche.

Haha, there is a bit of that, yes. Outlast was that for me, and the first BioShock made me feel like that too. I think the lack of variety in the jump scares is what helped me get used to them, but everyone is scared by different things and I don't at all blame you for being startled by that loud noise. (It is the stuff of nightmares.)

Ooo, I've wanted to watch the Alice games but never found a good let's play for them. (The one I was watching didn't have any commentary and the player wasn't all that great, and it was just...boring. But I don't feel like the game should be, it looks great!) NGL, one of my favorite things about LP's are listening to the voices. I do like a nice voice.

Uuuuuugh that NOOOOOOIIIISE. D8 IT IS THE WORST NOISE.

Yeah, I like the low-res kind, because we're really bad with gore or jump scares, but are way, way better at psych horror, and enjoy it a lot more. Corpse Party is GREAT at that! They got the great design idea to work around their tiny pixel doll graphics by, when scary things happen, turning the screen totally black. All your info is sound effects and the voice actors, who do a GREAT job. At first, you're like, "Oh, that's not hard, I can handle voices!" and then at the end you're like, "AAAAAAAAH!"

Lotus Prince's Alice Let's Plays are quite good! :D Here's the first one for the first game! You can tell he really loves the games, and he's actually responsible for us getting both Alice games!

You're making me realize how far behind I am on games. I only watch let's plays now and then but this last month I've been spending more time on YouTube and there's so many things to watch! There's almost too many horror games to keep up with, but I want to attempt some of these. (Also, sometimes what you can't see is worse than what you can. The imagination is a great and terrible thing.)

Awesome! Thank you for linking! I've heard a lot of good about these games over the years and I'm excited at the thought of a good LP of it.

I hope you enjoy! :D

If you want a spooky little game that can run on anything and is really short, maybe you would like Loved! I adore it, but apparently it really unnerves some people. I don't think it's too bad though!

I like being unnerved, so that is not a problem for me! In browser too? Oh, that's the best kind of game.

Totes! It is very short; if you're good, you can get all the endings in like, half an hour. Me and Rogan like to play it when we're feeling bad. ^_^
