There's someone like this in my fandom too, though I don't think the cultural thing is an issue with them.

I just find it odd that they've deliberately built themselves a position of influence within the fandom by being the main Go-To source for information, but when people do go to them with questions, they're incredibly dismissive and patronizing (in the "GFGI" way). It's like they want the attention and praise for being that super important and amazing person who's always first with information, but God forbid someone actually ask them something about it or want to engage in discussion or they'll basically turn around and tell you you're stupid and lazy.
