Steam!
Who else is on Steam? What games do you like to play?

Re: Steam!
What kind of games do you all like?
Re: Steam!
We like platformers, old-school adventure games, and things with psychological horror but aren't straight-up horror. Thomas Was Alone pretty much gave me everything I could ever want in a game; I love jumping games. @_@

(Anonymous) 2015-05-05 02:28 am (UTC)(link)Some staples of the genre:
- Limbo (would be surprised if this hasn't been recced yet)
- Braid (same)
- Mark of the Ninja (technically stealth platformer, but holy crap, this game is SO GOOD, seriously absolutely try it)
- The Fall (recent adventure game, you might like it!)
- The Swapper (interesting puzzle mechanic, platformer type game)
- Year Walk (fun little horror game, it has a good internal logic to it)
- EVERYTHING FROM WADJET EYE adventure games but primarily: Primordia (must play, post apocalyptic awesome robots), Gemini Rue (seriously good noir science fiction) and the Blackwell Series (holy shit, a multi episodic game that actually comes to a REALLY satisfying ending)
- VVVVVV (if you are feeling masochistic play this - it's difficult but fair at the same time, and way more fun than it looks)
- Never Alone (nnnot actually an amazing platformer, but actually a really good game overall for plot and design)

Re: Steam!
(Anonymous) 2015-05-05 02:50 am (UTC)(link)Year Walk is very short - took me under a couple of hours to finish. It's exactly as it says: there is a custom where you take a walk at the end of the year and try to see into the future. On the way you encounter things. It's hard to talk about it more without spoiling what sort of stuff comes up. I didn't find it horrific or scary as much as eerie, which seems to be what they were going for.

Re: Steam!
Amnesia is more psychological than straight up horror. Hmmm old school games. Age of Empires is a goody?not an adventure game tho... Sorry I'm useless XD

My Steam name is feot269.
Re: Steam!
I've never tried survival horror. Anything involving a lot of combat tends to be not my thing. I haven't heard of World of Goo!

Re: Steam!
There are two very different perspectives on survival horror, with an awkward middle ground in between.
First you've got stuff like Resident Evil or The Suffering, where you're shooting monsters left and right. I like that, but it's probably not your thing. (The Suffering is my favorite game ever.)
Then in the middle there's stuff like Silent Hill, where you can kill the monsters, but it's clumsy and awkward and you're supposed to prefer running away. That kind of sucks, at least in my opinion (though you could argue that Fatal Frame found the best balancing point.)
And on the far end, you've got games where you can't do squat to fight back. All you can do is sneak around, and if the monsters see you, you'd better run like hell. A lot of horror fans claim this is "true" horror and everything else is just action. Amnesia is the most popular of the recent games in this style. (You could also make a case for Five Nights at Freddy's, but that veers pretty far from the usual gameplay style.)
As for World of Goo, it was an indie darling a while back. You connect goo balls to create structures, and other goo balls can travel across the limbs of those structures. The more goo balls reach the level exit without being used, the more points you earn. I often screwed up and made my structure collapse in a heap, wasting all the goo balls that went into building it.
Re: Steam!
World of Goo sounds interesting! I might check it out.

Re: Steam!
I play a variety of games, but my current installed games are: Dark Souls 1 and 2, Skyrim, GTA5, Half-Life 1 (for mods), Organ Trail, and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Also have Injustice: Gods Among Us downloading at the moment.
