Honestly just certain writing tropes: first person perspective, inconsistent tense, stuff like that.

Also: fics that do slow burn but then sort of disappoint on the sex part. Ugh.

Also "normalizing" non-normal characters. It just seems to defeat the point.

Ugh, yes to normalizing non-normal characters. I think my only exception to that would be if the character needs to disguise themselves or gets "cursed" some way. Of course, these things are temporary and are normally done for comedy. Otherwise, yeah, it totally defeats the point. I don't get it.

Omg re: slow burn, this one author in my fandom was writing a slow burn fic, and right when she got to them getting together and had a chapter of build-up to sex...she announced a hiatus. This was 5 months ago.

What's worse is that she left on like chapter 9, and in the author's note at the beginning of the story, she said she already had 12 chapters written so she could edit and make sure things were cohesive as she wrote more. SO! The smut chapter? Already written, just...not posted. Uggggh.
