Feeling Really Talkative Tonight... ^^;

(Anonymous) 2015-05-07 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
So a little late to the party, but I have to say this...

1. I am a Christian Female
2. I believe that no one should have their rights taken away from them.
3. Even if I was gay, I would not marry a female because I don't believe in it, but I do believe that everyone has the right (or should have it) to make that decision for themselves.

Considering that my freedom to be Christian and believe as I do is a right that I am very grateful for, I don't really understand those who want to take away the right for others to believe as they will. I'm not gay, but I don't understand what is so wrong with gay marriage. I wouldn't want to live in a world where I couldn't marry the person I love because we're Christian. I try to live by the principle of 'love thy neighbor as thyself'. So long as a person is not actively causing harm to others, then let them do as they will.

The only problem I have is that this whole argument always seems to bring up people who are fighting for their rights by stomping down the rights of others. Some Christians go too far, beyond merely disapproving to acting out against it, but I can understand why Christians of my particular faith would be against it, as everyone has their own understanding of the gospel, but it's like the world has decided they don't have a right to that opinion. Even if they aren't harming anyone, the mere mention that they might not approve is met with vitriol and hate...

There is never going to be a time when everyone is completely understanding and approving of everything everyone else is doing, so why does it matter so much...... I just don't understand why so many people on both sides of the issue have to be so hateful...

And because so many people mentioned it, I personally believe that the phrase should be reworded: love the sinner, not the sin. You don't have to approve, but you still have to recognize that the person is a person, with virtues and flaws, just like everyone, and only God can judge them. Though I personally don't believe that being gay is a sin in and of itself, not if it is inborn as most people claim (I wouldn't know one way or the other). As I believe it, to sin, you must make a choice. You cannot sin if there is no choice.

How do you know what you'd believe in if you were gay?

They can talk about what kinds of marriages they do or don't approve of... within the walls of their church. As soon as you start talking about being against gay marriage in a political context, you can get fucked.

If your opinion is that a subjective belief system allows you to deny human rights to other people, then no, you don't have a right to it.

My opinion is that your faith is nothing more than a fairytale used to control people. Does that mean I get to deny you the right to practice it?
