Putting aside the anti-gay rhetoric for the nonce, your poor sad puppy premise is also flawed.

I mean, seriously. Just look at the new releases on any given week. Count how many have a clear political message. Then count the number which are so poorly written that it's detrimental to the work. then count the number of those that get any real traction at all.

If you're being honest, you're going to end up with a small, small number, assuming you don't get 0.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of books with benign themes, or themes you agree with. If your complaint is that you can't find any, you are not trying. Like... at all.

So be more honest. The fact that books with themes you don't like exist and are getting traction is the problem. Its not enough to avoid them, you must also prevent other people from reading them, and if they read them and like them, you need to be able to paint their enjoyment of those books as intrinsically wrong. It's kind of a baffling stance to take if you truly love literature - that all literature must either cater to your tastes, or be inoffensive to them.

I mean, fuck, I read around all the "MILITARY IS GOD" scifi for years because it wasn't to my taste. I never thought about dragging fandom to a cesspool and throwing it in over the fact.

Amen to this - so true! My thoughts exactly.
