but... isn't that #2 exactly the same as all that over-sensitivity about whether people apply trigger warnings? The only difference, really, is that they use that "the good old times" rhetoric.
(To illustrate: I had someone loudly complain about how they dared put sexual assault in sons of anarchy. Now THATs not even "You can't judge a book by its cover anymore!" but another level entirely. Like "I can't trust a story to be a safe space when it all but screams at me that it's not! Mememe!")

And if Brad Torgersen himself was not specifically on the record saying that "safe spaces" and trigger-warnings were bullshit and people should suck it up and deal, then maybe, just maybe, one could present that argument with a straight face.
