I think there is no reason to forgive him because he didn't do anything worth forgiving. He made a stupid joke. So what? I've made tasteless jokes. OP is gonna deny it, but I can guarantee you've made some tasteless jokes in your life. EVERYONE has.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
And he is free to tell tasteless jokes now, provided next time he has the basic fucking tact to do it in private with an audience that enjoys being insulted.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt

Well, I mean, I suppose the question that leaves me with is: if his offense is simply being tactless, what is the proper response to a lack of tact?

Is a lack of tact A Major Problematic Thing?

YES

DOOM POSTS ON FANDOM SECRETS???

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The difference is that most of us aren't making misogynist jokes on a platform where they can reach millions of people.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a joke at the very beginning of an interview that wasn't even really part of the interview. And people can make jokes wherever the hell they want.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And critics can say that those jokes are disgusting and sexist wherever the hell they want.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
And people can subsequently not apologize for those jokes and still not deserve full-on vilification.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
lol so basically people are allowed to react the way they want to until it's a reaction you don't like?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
And people should not try to shame other people who forgive him or for not being offended by said joke.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-13 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a time and a place for crude, sexist humor. I am fully serious, I think any sort of joke has a time, place and audience.

But on an interview, representing a movie franchise that lots of kids look up to, is not the place for that kind of joke.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
And now nobody want's to see him working in movies any more. He's welcome to say what he want's but he's got to accept the consequences.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
ROTFLMFAO! "now nobody wants to see him working anymore, 'cause I say so, oblivious to the world outside my tumblr bubble. Look at me, so passive-aggressive in my righteous quest for cleaner public speech!". Ah, the self-importance of the average sj warrior...

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You seriously sound like a douche.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, horseshit. I'll still go see his movies because I don't care. He's an actor. Most of them are dicks.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
He has the right to make a tacky and stupid joke. We the audience have the right to say, "Dude that's not funny." That's kind of how this whole Freedom of Speech thing works.

Though I was confused by one of the quotes. When did Black Widow sleep with 4 out of the 6 Avengers? I know the latest film has her developing a bond with Bruce Banner (though they aren't shown doing the horizontal tango so I don't know if it counts as "sleeping with him"). Let's see she kissed Captain America in the Captain America: the Winter Soldier movie, but a kiss is not the same as, y'know, having sex with someone unless I really should have paid more attention during sex ed. She's not romantically involved with Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity and I think Thor is more into Natalie Portman than he is Black Widow (and who can blame him. She's Natalie Portman!). I don't think she and Tony Stark ever did it, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they had.

In fact, given that Tony Stark has been established to be a womanizing alcoholic (granted a very charming one), wouldn't it be more accurate to call him a slut, seeing as he's had more sexual partners than Black Widow? But yeah, the old stereotype: a guy who sleeps with a lot of girls is the man, whereas a girl who sleeps with a lot of guys is a slut.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
They call Tony a man whore, which he is.
I am not into the comics but from the MCU movies I don't remember Natasha sleeping around at all, whereas Tony we know he's done so plenty of times with women he barely knows.

Yeah I was wondering this as well. Even MCU-wise, I figured Bruce and Clint, and maaaaybe Tony, but I don't see either Cap or Thor.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
I actually think that was still part of the joke (which I understood as the OTT offended reaction of a spurned wannabe lover. Which, in my eyes, was supposed to poke fun at his own character, not actually insult Natasha, but I guess that went right over the heads of most people.)
