Sometimes I don't eat for the day to punish myself for failing at life. It's not about the weight, I know I'm underweight and I'd actually really love to gain some. It just feels nice to be mean to myself, I don't know.

A more productive way to punish yourself might be to work out.

I'm not even joking. If it's punishment you want plus weight gain, go exert yourself and in the long run it's probably healthier for you.

"I don't want to"- well isn't it about punishment? If not, what is it really about?

What? If you're AIRT you've confused me. I don't get the idea of punishing yourself by doing something preferable over something less preferable if the idea is truly to punish yourself.

Is it a self-harm thing I don't understand?

You're the one putting words in my mouth there. Nowhere did I say "I don't want to", but you assumed I would say that from the get-go for some reason. Also your argument is I should do something I don't want to as a punishment, but you yourself suggested working out because I want to gain weight - so that would be doing something good for me, yes? Achieving something I want? Obviously something more preferable?

But most of all I think it is really weird that you're trying to discuss with me which way to punish myself would make the most sense, as if it is a rational thing to do and I really should be looking for the most efficient way to achieve it or something.

All in all, I do believe you're terribly confused about what your point really is.

I used to do that with sleep instead of food. My chronic fatigue that has developed since feels like some kind of ironic punishment for doing that.

I hope you find a healthier way to deal with that feeling of failure.
