Re: What's something you don't understand, even when it's explained to you?

Offside in football. People must have explained it to me at least twenty times, but I can't get it. I mean, I know there's a line and how some players have to be behind that line for a goal to count or whatever, but I can't get exactly what it is to stick.

When the ball is passed to you, if you're on the other team's side of the field, there have to be at least two players between you and the other goal. And the goalie counts as one of those players.

So basically, there has to be someone between you and the goalkeeper. That's it. That's the offside rule, basically.

At one point I had someone explain it in a fixed sentence that went "a player is offside when at the moment the ball is played, he is the only one closer to the other team's goal, than the ball.
Though in this case the keeper is considered "inside" the goal, so it doesn't account for Manuel Neuer.

Right, that's basically it.

The thing is that there's a lot of little technicalities and such. But basically - don't be past the last man when the ball is passed to you.

Easy: you start moving before the offense does.

Wrong code.

I believe that's a false start.

I made a diagram! :D It's really ugly, but hopefully it helps.

Blue is defending. And I didn't draw a keeper because the keeper doesn't count when it comes to offsides.

So, the example in the top is offsides, because there are no blue players between the red player and the goal. The example in the bottom isn't offsides, because there's a blue player between the red player and the goal.
