What is left and what is right.

Like, I technically know, but it does not come to me naturally at all. I really have to think to remember which is which. It leads to a lot of "to the other left" situations.

Yup.

I am way too old to have to stop and have that split second of "Okay, which hand do I write with... ah, so that's the right!" every time.

Oh man me too, I can never remember my left from my right and it's irritating as hell because it is not a difficult thing to know. But nope, tell me to raise my right/left hand and I will raise the other one first or stare blankly as I try to recall which is which.

The way I remember it is, hold your hands up like you're admiring your nails (or cursing how shitty they look, IDC). The hand where the pointer finger and thumb form an L is your left hand.

Just admire those nails. ^_~

heh, when I want to look at my nails I usually curl my fingers over so they're facing the same way as my palm.

but I did learn to do the left/right thing but holding up my hands and making L shapes; the one with the L that's not backwards is left.

I remember when I was a kid, if you looked at your nails that way, it meant you were straight; if you looked at them the other way, it meant you were gay

kids are fucking stupid

haha I have never heard that one!

I am straight so they were right about one person. Though statistically speaking they're probably right about many of them.

ETA: I just did it again as an experiment, and I guess I start with the curled fingers thing, and then sometimes turn my hand over and look at it that way. So I guess they were not so right after all.

I have never given this any thought before but I bet I will think about this conversation next time I check my nails.

Ooooh, I'll have to remember that because that's pretty useful. And if I can kick my brain into remembering that the 'l' hand is left then maybe it will stick even without looking at them! (I don't hold out hope for this :P)

Yeaaaah, whenever I try this one, I immediately forget which way an L is supposed to face. I have to remember which hand I write with. I write with my right!

I remember left is driver's side and right is passenger's side. :D
