But it still works! If the meme has a thread for fills and is still active you can always still post that you're updating it. (Even if it isn't active, that doesn't mean people can't find past comments you've made about updates. Or links, if someone's rec'd it before, and then there's always browsing... Lots of options!)

I used to track several posts on the kinkmeme I was involved with, some for fics I was reading and some for my own fics to track comments. As quickly as I'd get comments sometimes, I think a lot of readers who are committed to following certain fics use that method.
I haven't stopped tracking those threads, and it still makes me smile when (years later) I get the odd notification about an update or comment.
