Based on #1

What is some of the worst/most uncomfortable (over)acting you have seen?

Mine has to be Quinto and Pine in all of Star Trek: Into Darkness but most notably the scene reactor scene. It was so embarrassing to watch.

Perhaps the most obvious offender is Nicholas Cage. Particularly Wicker Man which I had the "pleasure" of watching in theaters. I still cringe when I think of that movie.

John Travolta in Battlefield Earth.

WHILE YOU WERE STILL LEARNING TO SPELL YOUR NAME!

Bonus silver medal goes to Tommy Wiseau.

I would argue that Tommy Wiseau wasn't acting so much as he was just ...being Tommy Wiseau and reciting some lines he wrote in front of a camera.

Would that make him a real life overactor, then?

I want a movie staring Tommy Wiseau and Nicolas Cage.

God that movie was so terrible. I don't get how anyone saw his performance and thought it was a good idea. Or the movie in general for that matter.

But... but... the reason to watch Nic Cage is the overacting. That's why you watch a Nic Cage movie!

I thought everyone was aware of this?

I was young and it was the only movie we could watch. It created my life long hate of Nic Cage.

Looking it up our other options would have been pretty terrible as well.

Thandi Newton as Condoleeza Rice in W.

Especially egregious because a) she's really good in other movies and b) Richard Dreyfus managed to do Epically Evil!Dick Cheney in that movie without making it look awkward or unrealistic at all.

Aw. I liked her in what I've seen her so that makes me a bit sad. Though, she was a bit over the top in Chronicles of Riddick (who wasn't).

edit: I am watching Mission Impossible 2 and she is in it! Guess we will see how much I enjoy her acting in it. :D

David Caruso. I like CSI Miami but it's way too much at times - especially if you've been away for awhile and haven't acclimated to the overacting.

Keanu Reeves. He was the first person I ever thought was bad. Usually I'm very forgiving but him in Much Ado About Nothing was painful.

Ugh. David Caruso made it impossible for me to enjoy that show. I loved all the other characters but he was just unbearable.

I am not a fan either way of Keanu Reeves. Though, I really liked him in John Wick.

I recently rewatched CSI Miami. I loved it at the time, but now I mostly just crack-watched. Oh, wow, how he over acted. It cracked me up mostly (except that one moment where he beats a pedophile suspect and we're supposed to cheer and it is totally harsher in hindsight given all the police brutality in the news lately).

Oh god Quinto and Pine.

Their overacting is so much less enjoyable and less earnest than Shatner's.

I've not seen the original (but I disliked the Star Trek: TOS I saw). I felt most people in that movie were over acting except Karl Urban and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Nicolas Cage is a good - really a fantastic - actor and most of his overacting is a valid and interesting stylistic choice

I believe this completely unironically

I think the problem in Wicker Man was the... completely, completely wretched script. And also, maybe, the fact that Nicolas Cage still committed 200% despite the awful script.

Have you seen Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans?

I have seen that but what a cast! Though, I can't take it seriously because Xzibit's picture is from that meme of him.

Yeah Quinto and Pine's is up there for me too, me and the bf nearly burst out laughing during that scene because it was so wtf.

But for others, oh John Travolta in Battlefield earth, that is some next level overacting right there. And Nicholas Cage in general, though I do love a lot of the movies he's in.

But Cage, at this point, I think knows he's terrible and has fun with it anyway.

Um, let's see...the whole of Oz, the Great and Powerful. That movie was PAINFUL. I had to squirm sometimes and my fiance was constantly pulling his hood over his face, it was that bad. Not to mention other things...*still salty over how they handled the Wicked Witch*

Ha! I was able to get out seeing that one in theaters. My sister loves The Wizard of Oz but I talked her out of seeing it.

For some reason Quinto and Pine weirdly worked for me, because it was so over the top cheesy. I think because the movie was missing so much of the fun from the first one that I was grateful to have something to laugh at.

I cannot believe that no one has mentioned Alan Rickman in that awful Deathly Hallows flashback

I liked them in the first movie but blech in STID. I don't know what changed.

Is that the flashback where Harry Potter's parents die? I'm not huge into Harry Potter so I've only seen the movie once.

I have such a hard time with this. Despite being in Drama class in high school, i can't actually act. So it's hard for me to say 'yeah, what a bad actor!!', especially when a lot of the time it's really crappy story/dialogue/directing.

I just dunno if anybody who is actually on tv or in a movie is really that *bad*....
