Vintage Fandom Opinions

(Anonymous) 2015-06-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's say anything that ended roughly five years ago.

Five years ago = vintage???????

LMAO I know, right?!

Re: Vintage Fandom Opinions

(Anonymous) 2015-06-01 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
lol "vintage"

i think you mean something more like "non-recent closed canons"

Yeah, that's really what I meant. Sorry. You get my drift.

Roughly five OR MORE years ago. Sorry.

Re: OP

And vintage or closed canon. My point is really, things old enough that it seems silly to make secrets for them.

If you look at the secrets, you'll notice that a good 1/4th of them are all for canons that have been closed for 5 years or more. And the FS commenters never treat it as "silly" to make secrets for an older fandom.

AYRT - ...really? It seems like whenever there's a fandom older than five years, at least one person'll be all "OMG this is so 2010."

Nah, that's only when a secret rehashes old wank that had been wanked to death years ago, like Snape/Lily stuff or bashing Rose Tyler.

I am still pissed off that in BtVS, The Zeppo ended so gloriously and with the apparent promise of some of the most satisfying character development ever, yet the episode right after it just slammed the reset button solely for the sake of squeezing out a few more Cordelia-and-Xander-insult-each-other jokes. Fuck you, Joss.

Eh. I mostly hated both characters, and I didn't like The Zeppo at all. You are probably right, but I can't bring myself to care that much.

Well, one of the reasons I loved the Zeppo was because it was an opportunity for character development and making Xander better (though that was a pretty minor reason. The main reason was that it was the most epic and spot-on meta self-parody ever).

I've personally always found the sentiment of not wanting a character to have development/not caring about a character's development because you hate them to be embarrassingly immature and nonsensical, since IMO that's all the more reason to root for more development.

We're talking late 2010, but that still counts. Kinda.

I don't like that Discord is a minor character instead of a one time villain. I generally find him annoying and so does most of the cast aside from Fluttershy.

Eh, Twilight's beginning to warm to him in a way. After that silly episode where was "sick" and Cadence had a blast, I think she changed her mind, barring the siding with doodle in the finale. Also, the latest Gala episode she was mostly ok with him, just wanted him to keep an eye on that smooze, bit then that'spure Twilight, her ocs/anxiety talling due to past experience with him AND at the last gala.

In general I like him. He's a good guy, mostly, now, but still causes chaos.

In Angel I still don't buy that Wesley and Fred were each other's "true love" or whatever crap they were trying to go for. Wes pinned for her for a long ass time and she had every opportunity to be with him but she kept picking other men over him and even didn't show interest when she was single.

I just didn't buy them being really in love and into each other in the last season, it just felt like cheap setup to make her death more tragic.

I also kind of didn't care that Fred died but they had killed off most of her personality by that point and Illyria ended up being badass. Amy Acker is a great actress and I love her.

See, I don't get the idea that feelings can't change. I buy that she wasn't in love with him at first and then fell in love with him. Maybe not "one true love" but then I don't believe in destiny and "one true love" anyway.

AYRT I could buy that feelings could change enough for them to date but not enough for them to be so incredibly in love and that they would have stayed together forever if she had not died.

I just don't often see situations where people pass up someone they're really into, and they pass on it continually. I think it'd be different if the story had been set up like they were always missing opportunities (a lot of romance stories do that) but it didn't feel like they were missing opportunities- it just felt like he liked her but she didn't like him in that way.

I just never felt Fred grow to love him, it just felt like she weirdly started liking him. It was even weirder when they had that episode where Wes essentially kills his "Dad" and doesn't care because he was protecting her? That's not romantic to me.

Love how the thread got hijacked by wank over vintage vs. closed canon.

Highlander. The 4 Horsemen plotline was too out there. I try to forget that it ever happened.
