Loved the beginning of the movie, hated how predictable it got at the end.

Elaborate on predictability?

/wavering but suddenly wary again

Fell into the Hollywood last act trap: time is suddenly running out for no discernible reason so we have to have the hastily assembled ragtag single team go in. Most of the team will die in order for the hero to make it to the place where he can do Hero Thing except maybe the love interest.

Then they even did the whole hero not!sacrificing himself and followed it up with the happy ending. Where the happy ending is the reunion with the love interest who doesn't know him anymore.

I swear, they couldn't have picked an ending I would have predicted more of than that if they'd just taken The Matrix's ending, filed the serial numbers off and... Oh wait. They kind of did.

Wavered back into disinterest. Thanks!

Don't get me wrong, I'd still recommend watching it. The first ...3/4? Were really quite brilliant and interesting. And also pretty hilarious.

It's really just that last 20 minutes or so...

Nah an ending like that will easily leave a sour taste in my mouth and colour the rest of it for me. Better for me to just ignore it for now and check out something else.

If you're that influenced by someone else's opinion then it's probably best you don't bother to watch it... In fact, you could save a lot of money by not going to movies at all or buying books. Just read reviews and let other people decide for you.

Herp kindly described a bunch of tropes I dislike and I've come to the decision to not go see it, even with Herp suggesting otherwise. Because I know what I like and dislike and why spend time on something when odds are good I will dislike? So pretty clear I'm making my own decision here.

I also commonly check out reviews on media to help decide when and if I will read or watch something. It's not uncommon behaviour when making a decision.

Don't let Herpy deter you. The thing is, Herpy is usually wrong about things and he's a massive snob. Take his opinion with a grain of salt. Try to get someone else's viewpoint first, because he acts like he's an authority on everything and he really, really isn't.

I'm not Herpy's hater or anything, I just don't really care for him misleading people because he thinks he knows what he's talking about.

I'm not really letting Herpy* persuade me (considering Herp is still highly recommending it) I'd already decided against seeing it out of major wary, dislike of Tom cruise and borderline disinterest prior to this secret. And no one around me had mentioned it yet so it was slotted in the "not going to actively look for reviews" but then I saw this secret and people are talking positively about so some slight curiosity - but I really can't stand predictability and for me, well, bad endings tend to sour movies for me and make me kind of resentful? Cause when things end in a predictable way coughelysiumcough or just downright ridiculous twists...it colours the rest of it.

Not saying I won't see it ever, if I'm channel flicking and its on I might leave it but I probsbly won't actively seek it out unless I stumble across a particularly engaging review or win a free ticket or something.

*wavers around lazily on the fence*

Idk it's not a big deal to me if I see it or not.

Eta: you're welcome to share you're own view on it of course.

Predictable in the sense that they'd defeat the Mimics?
Or that he'd pursue Rita?

Both senses.

eh, neither of those bothered me all that much. (I only found the kiss annoying for reasons I haven't yet pinned down. I think I was disappointed that they went there, as they'd played that angle mostly low key til that point.)
