I possibly sprained my ankle in my martial arts class last week (idk I've never had a sprain, but I twisted my ankle and the next day it was swollen and looked like it had a baseball inside of it and really hurt to walk on). Now it's still a little sore but it's mostly fine, I have my class against tomorrow, really want to go, but don't want to make my ankle worse if it's still a little sore. The class is really intense so it isn't like I can take it easy.

I'd stay off it a while longer, anon. The nasty thing about spraining one's ankle is that as it heals, it's really, really ridiculously easy to re-injure it again because the muscles/tendons are recovering. Despite what sports team movies say, there are no heroics in pushing through the pain, it's just being silly and not giving your body the time it needs to heal.

I hope you wrapped and elevated it. You don't want to fuck with your ankles.

Rest up! Seriously, don't push it, you'll only make it worse in the long run. Ankle sprains are pesky things and it's so easy to keep re-injuring if you don't give yourself ample healing time. It sucks to lose the training time and fall behind fitness-wise, but you will pull that back once you return to the class and have been at it a few weeks.

I know how frustrating it is though. Sorry this happened to you anon D:

Ayrt

Thanks for the advice. It's still bruised and though walking is fine (starts to ache after long walks though), twisting it too far does make it hurt. I really don't want to fall behind in the class, and I was really stoked about getting into shape (even going to the gym several times a week also), plus the class is prepaid for once a week and I can't get the money back. But of course I don't want to make my ankle worse. :( Thanks, I'll consider taking tonight off.
