The Harry Potter fandom ruined me for good fic, yes. Because that fandom has a shit ton of very excellent fic and my standards were very, very high for a long time. I've loosened up on my fic standards as of late, though, since I've been dabbling in smaller fandoms.

Sure, HP fandom had tons of bad fic too but there were just so many great epic novel length completed fics. That's what I'm missing more than anything in the newer fandoms. No one writes novel length (50,000+ for me) in most of the fandoms I frequent, or if they start to, the story gets abandoned before it's finished.

And then if you liked a specific pairing or wanted gen, there really was something for everyone. I like Snape mentors Harry fics of Draco and Ginny and there's so many.
