I found "Fury is evil" - or rather, Fury has good intentions but has gone too far in carrying them out - a lot in fanfic back when I read it for MCU (now I stick to 616), and I never understood it. A lot of the time I think he was a convenient roadblock for people who wanted an obstacle to their pairing getting together.
