Re: Did your first fandom spoil you?

Hard to say, since it's still going on. I was in LOTR back when the movies first came out. I'm spoiled in that I could find fic of pretty much any pairing I wanted. I wasn't a judge of good or bad back then, but looking at some of the fics I liked, they're on par for what's being made now.

I participate in fandom about the same as I did then: lurker. People seem nice but I generally find nice people to follow. It's also different since it was LJ based and there was more discussion about hardcore stuff. There's more gifs and pics now, but you can still find the discussion. I'm sure there were kinky fics but I didn't find them (I'm so happy I never saw "Celebrian" back then). I found what I wanted, basically, and didn't have to wade through a ton of stuff I didn't.

I will say, they had lots of sites dedicated to LOTR fics, characters, authors, etc. and they were very well organized to find stuff. So, that's something I miss.
