Okay, that's a lie, don't think that's even a thing, but here's a hipster question:

What did you like before everyone liked it? And do you think other people liking it had an effect on its quality?

I remember YouTube when it was a place nerds and film students and a few random people here and there went. There were fanvids, really cool online shows (even if they usually tanked after five episodes because of lack of funding/time/interest/all of the above), etc.

I still like YT, but I definitely think as the volume grew, things happened that made some of the great things no longer possible. I think YouTube web series mostly dwindled because people realized how much of an effort it actually took (though you can still find the odd continuing web series, I think), but fanvids became impossible once studios caught onto what was going on. Then they sold to google... so that definitely impacted it negatively.

So I still like YT, but it's definitely changed.

Was a huge fan who started it shortly after A Storm of Swords was released and tried at length to get my friends to read it (none of who did).

And now literally a decade since I've touched the series they're all fangirling over it, sending stuff to me, and commenting on my old e-mail address which was Asoiaf (my go to handle and nickname was Asoiaf related).

Now all I can think is that I'm happy for them, but hope those filthy casuals don't infect me with their pleb taste.

Sia, I guess? In a hipstery "I was listening to her music before she got really popular" way.

Also Silent Hill and Resident Evil, since the SO and I started playing those basically from day 1 before they became the classic series they are now.

Also I was both an LJ and ICQ early adopter. That doesn't count for much though.

I spent years and years taking shit for my love of Cap. Now half the world understands his awesomeness.

I grew up watching NASCAR with my dad and even drove up to Daytona to attend races in person. This was back in the early 90s before Jeff Gordon came along and proved to be an insufferable asshole even to my tween self. I still blame him for what NASCAR is today. That probably won't change.

Hannibal (the TV show). I remember when nobody had heard of it, and then it suddenly exploded all over tumblr. I don't think other people liking it has had an effect on its quality - that's all in control of the writers. (Though I do think S2 was disappointing in comparison to S1.)

But I stay away from the fandom, anyway. They're annoying.
