I remember YouTube when it was a place nerds and film students and a few random people here and there went. There were fanvids, really cool online shows (even if they usually tanked after five episodes because of lack of funding/time/interest/all of the above), etc.

I still like YT, but I definitely think as the volume grew, things happened that made some of the great things no longer possible. I think YouTube web series mostly dwindled because people realized how much of an effort it actually took (though you can still find the odd continuing web series, I think), but fanvids became impossible once studios caught onto what was going on. Then they sold to google... so that definitely impacted it negatively.

So I still like YT, but it's definitely changed.
