Honestly...

[personal profile] iceyred 2015-06-05 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I was hoping this scandal would mean the network would cancel that God-awful show, the advertisements and interview requests would dry up, and this family would fade back into oblivion. Not only is the family's treatment of the daughters horrific, but they're obviously using God to sell themselves and earn money/run for office/earn more money.

This is also how I feel about Lena Dunham, but she's still going strong. :(

The only comfort I get from Lena Dunham is that now networks/publishers are not just paying attention to well-off, old, white, navel-gazing men, but well-off, young, white, navel-gazing women as well. So...I guess that's some form of progress. Not a great example of it, but...

I don't know. (Shrugs)

Speaking as a young, white woman, I've never felt underrepresented in the media. We're poorly represented, but networks and publishers have been paying attention to us for a while now.

It's one of those things were I try to find something good to say because I don't want to sound hateful.

But really, if we're going to come down to brass tacks, I hate her. I hate her so much. She's spoiled and privileged and just plain awful. She's like Aaron Sorkin; I just want to hit her in the face, all the freaking time. She condescends, she trivializes every hardship that doesn't relate to her spoiled hipster life.

I really just hate rich people who like pretending to be poor.

Bwahahaha! No worries, I want to punch her in her potato-shaped face too! Especially when she had that ugly green hair color. And from what I saw of 'Girls' she not that talented or creative.

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
The hair, that was truly a poor color choice and cut for her, but that's because I'm a hair stylist, and it gives me the professional vapors, (Like, she has money and connections, why does her hair look like a hot mess)

She's...I think her movie, "Tiny Furniture" is still on Netflix? I have exactly one Rich Friend and she was the one who first watched it. Her reaction? "I kind of get why people like you hate people like me" with this super-uncomfortable facial expression. Watching it is like watching a documentary on the inner turmoil of an earthworm. You ever read Catcher in the Rye? Remember how pretentious the protagonist is, and we're supposed to be like, "oh, you pretentious little teenage dumbass"? It's like that, only with no self-awareness.

The color was ugly (especially when it started to fade and wash out) and the cut was just bland. She can look cute when she wants to, but it seems like she doesn't often want to.

I read a synopsis of 'Tiny Furniture' on wikipedia and dear Lord, it sounds like the film version of www.whitewhine.com

It's funny. I've run into pretentious rich people, but the vast majority of rich people I know wear jeans and t-shirt from Sears and drive cars older than 10 years. They would not accept LD as one of their own.

Oh for God's sake. Can't you do this against Amy Schumer, instead, who actually did rape someone?

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, look, another person who thinks penetration has to happen for it to be rape.

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
No, I just don't think that seven year olds being curious about how bodies work is rape

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, because it has to be one or the other.

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
well, I mean, I think people are pretty committed to being angry against feminist comedians. so yeah, apparently we're going to launch at least one undying vendetta against someone, and that being the case, i'd prefer it not to be this weirdo thing about some shit that happened when the person in question was like 7 years old.

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
As a feminist, I recognize I don't have to like/promote every woman who "makes it", especially when they're as problematic as Lena Dunham.

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
She may or may not be problematic. I don't think she's very funny, personally. But I don't think she's a rapist, and I find it ludicrous that anyone could seriously believe that.

I don't know who Amy Schumer is. That said, why not hate both?

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Because Lena Dunham doesn't deserve it.

Nice to know that you are the official authority on what everyone deserves. From now on I will look to you whenever a question about what anyone deserves arises. You will be our guiding light in these troubled times.

Re: Honestly...

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Man, that's some bullshit, and you know it. I'm honestly disappointed. I expect more from you.

I am expressing my view about whether or not she deserves it, and I think your view is wrong; although, in a broad sense, I acknowledge the possibility that I am wrong, I do not think that I am. That has nothing to do with authority. It's just people disagreeing. That's just how disagreement works, like, in a basic and fundamental way, in human existence. And you know this.

Jesus, that's low.

C'mon Anon, don't be melodramatic. Just tell me you'll be happy to be y guiding light and move on with your life.
