I think it's pretty sad that the stupid actions of a 15-year-old are being used to vilify the entire family. I also find it sad that the sisters have been named as victims, and no one seems to give a shit about their privacy. Now, I do think the one kid who perpetrated the actions is creepy as shit, no question about it. But the way everyone else in the family is being dragged through the mud stinks of a witchhunt, and I find it incredibly distasteful.

(And before you ask, I'm an atheist, TYVM.)

But his parents and the community, including a police officer who was later found guilty of the same crime, helped cover it up. So why shouldn't they be blamed? They denied justice for the victims, some of who were their own daughters, and allowed him the freedom to hurt more people.

Oh man, the police officer, don't even get me started.

My point is honestly more toward the daughters (who were victims) and other siblings. And also the fact that people are so GLEEFUL about this. It's not something to gloat over, it's sad. It's a sad thing that happened, and the kid who perpetrated the acts and his parents fucked up. But some people have hated the Duggars for so long that this is *just* the vindication they've been waiting for, and I do find the fallout to be pretty disgusting.

I'm not gleeful these girls were ever hurt, or that the crime committed against them is the one that's getting all the press. I am happy that people are actually being forced to see this movement is not some wholesome Little House on the Prairie re-enactment. The Quiverfull movement is harmful, and creates this sort of environment, where people like him can get away with shit like this, and the victims are blamed and expected to stay quiet and be ashamed and are never allowed to know different. Their kids aren't even allowed to attend normal school! These victims were never given an opportunity to seek justice, because their own parents expected them to keep quiet and forgive their attacker.

Not to mention how they treat women as a whole.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. Honestly, seeing people happy over the fact that this scandal exists absolutely sickens me.

Please link me to someone being happy that the scandal exists.

I feel bad for the daughters (especially because their parents don't seem to give a rat's ass about them here). But I can also understand the feeling of schadenfreude to see these hypocritical parents get nailed in the media, after lambasting gay people as pedophiles and molesters while knowing (and hiding) that their son had molested his own sisters.

Who do you think covered up for him all these years? Hint: IT WAS HIS FAMILY.

I don't mean to imply the obvious has escaped you, but... it totally has.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
oh no, the family that vilifies me and every other trans person as being sexual offenders waiting to molest their lily white Christian children in bathrooms is being dragged through the mud. poor them :'(

Huge fucking spoilers: most of child molestation and rape comes from other minors. It doesn't make it any less of a crime.
