Re: Fallout: New Vegas
I like that order, and I'll probably do the three I'll redo (DM, OWB, and LR*) in that order again...and after getting all but the end-game portion of the Brotherhood of Steel stuff done...I think the information coming out in that order makes it more compelling.
For Dead Money, though, I'd recommend looking up a walkthru to avoid having to kill Dean...that DLC is VERY buggy, and one particular bug can make it impossible to complete if it hits and you can't do that one portion the non-lethal way...which is very hard to do and requires lots of prep.
* Honest Hearts was so. Bloody. Boring. I didn't like either of the companions, the conversations with the interesting NPCs were sparse, and Zion just isn't as interesting to explore as the Mohave, or Big Mountain, or the Sierra Madre.
Re: Fallout: New Vegas
Awww...I thought Honest Hearts was either the most popular DLC, or the second most popular DLC. I've heard good things, but I guess I won't know until I try. At least it must be more enjoyable than Dead Money? (Or maybe not, since you said you would play Dead Money again. Sorry you didn't care for Honest Hearts.)
I will probably end up trying Dead Money first just to get it out of the way, but I still take your advice and try to find a good walkthrough.
Re: Fallout: New Vegas
Re: that one killer bug: To be nonspoilery, there's one circumstance you can die that's unique to the DLC. (Actually, there are several, but the bug only comes into play for one of them.) In the circumstance that a walkthru can protect you, you get a grace period to get out of the area before you die... But if the bug hits, the announcement that you're under the circumstances that are going to kill you refuses to be dismissed...and unfortunately whatever causes the issue can't be fixed by a reload. (I learned that the hard way.) So, if you get it and haven't got to the point you can do this part without killing, you're forced to reload before you've entered the Sierra Madre at all (so make sure to keep a pre-entrance save). (Or to use console commands, which I did...and then I had to use them again, because using the console meant certain flags didn't trip, which screwed up later stuff.)
Spoilery version: [Part of the premise of the DLC is you're stuck with an explosive collar that means that whichever companion you're with at the time dies, so do you. Eventually, it's revealed that one of your companions, Dean Domino, is a scuzzbag, and tries to kill you, unless you've chosen the right dialogue options to get him on your side (which is hard to do without a walkthru, he's a real asshole). Usually, you then grab some items you need to proceed and run out of the room before your collar pops (or run, then come back and grab the items). If, however, the bug has been triggered, a 'DEAN DOMINO HAS DIED!' message pops up and refuses to be dismissed.]
Re: Fallout: New Vegas
IDK, I might even end up watching a playthrough before (or instead of) playing it myself. I DO want to check it out for the story (as it sounds neat, and having an asshole companion would be something different), but it doesn't sound too fun to actually play (because of, like you said, the bugs).
Re: Fallout: New Vegas
On the other hand, checking, that bug apparently only happens on PC, so if you're on a console, it shouldn't actually be an issue. The DLC's still remarkably buggy, but none of them are game-breakers, at least according to the FO wiki.
