Share your meta!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-06-06 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I just got out of watching Max Fury aka the greatest movie I have ever see. So I am looking for any and all meta from it especially involving Max and Furiosa.

And share your favorite meta (personal or from other people). Change the subject to the Fandom to help people!

I have no meta, but that was definitely one of the best movies of the last two decades or so.

My sister, half an hour in, called it amazingly stressful. I think that describes it perfectly.

I was shocked. I thought it would be overhyped. It was not!

I'd never seen the original Mad Max movies so I had no idea what to expect, and was a little skeptical in the beginning of the movie. Then I realized it was recreating 80s action movie campy insanity, and I was just along for the ride.

It was fun and exciting and awesome, though since it didn't really have much story I'm not sure how much rewatch value it has? I can definitely see it becoming a cult classic/party movie though.

I've only seen the first one and I hated it. It was so boring. This wasn't that at all.

How violent/gory is the movie? People keep saying it's awesome, but then I've also heard that there are torture scenes and stuff.

Is it just PG-13 violence like in Die Hard? Or blood-fountains like Spartacus or GoT?

Re: Share your meta!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-06-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The gore is very minimal. I can only think of two sort of gory parts and they only last a second. There are scenes involving needles but it is basically something you would see on House

Re: Share your meta!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It is kinda in between. The movie isn't afraid to go totally OTT on the violence, but it keeps the outright gore for gore's sake to a minimum. The most disturbing parts are actually implied, but it implies them so very disturbingly.

Re: Share your meta!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Torture scenes? I honestly don't remember that. It kind of plays like comic book violence, to be honest. There's a little blood, and maybe a tiny bit of gore, but nothing that's really shot in a way to horrify you. Definitely not Spartacus/GoT level gore. I honestly had thought it was a PG13 film before I realized it was rated R, but the general atmosphere of the film is 1980s campy action and it never settles long on pain/suffering.

Re: Share your meta!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's realistically violent. Yes, it can be over the top but not in way that is like, "BLOOD SPLATTER AND GORE! AWESOME!" like some other violent action films.

I think that's why it has an R rating. Because when someone is stabbed, they are hurting and dying for the rest of the pic. It's not like cut to the next scene and they are hopping in and out of cars without so much as five minute break to lean against something.

It helps that the director, Miller was an ER doc way back when. So, he knows what damage a human body can go through and the effects afterward. It shows.

The majority of things are implied and there's minimal blood. The rating is more about the disturbing content references but anything particularly gory is done offscreen.

I'm pretty squeamish and didn't need to close my eyes or block my ears at any point

Harry Potter

(Anonymous) 2015-06-06 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still an obsessed fan, not ashamed, buuut... some of the things people tweet JKR are so cringeworthy.

I mean, I get that they're probably sixteen and I'm sure that my sixteen year old self would've been the same way, so I don't fault them. Just, you know. Secondhand embarrassment. :p

Also, I still wish Fantastic Beasts were a new book trilogy, not a movie trilogy, but I also admire JKR for realizing they were going to make a movie and being all "lol, no, I'm writing it" instead of just taking the money and letting them do the running.

I thought she was writing a new Potterverse series book? I'm sure I read it somewhere.

Not really meta, but here's some interesting posts on how the way Mad Max was framed affects how it treats the female characters:

And here's some more meta-ish stuff on Furiosa's backstory and costuming:
