How violent/gory is the movie? People keep saying it's awesome, but then I've also heard that there are torture scenes and stuff.

Is it just PG-13 violence like in Die Hard? Or blood-fountains like Spartacus or GoT?

The gore is very minimal. I can only think of two sort of gory parts and they only last a second. There are scenes involving needles but it is basically something you would see on House

It is kinda in between. The movie isn't afraid to go totally OTT on the violence, but it keeps the outright gore for gore's sake to a minimum. The most disturbing parts are actually implied, but it implies them so very disturbingly.

Torture scenes? I honestly don't remember that. It kind of plays like comic book violence, to be honest. There's a little blood, and maybe a tiny bit of gore, but nothing that's really shot in a way to horrify you. Definitely not Spartacus/GoT level gore. I honestly had thought it was a PG13 film before I realized it was rated R, but the general atmosphere of the film is 1980s campy action and it never settles long on pain/suffering.

It's realistically violent. Yes, it can be over the top but not in way that is like, "BLOOD SPLATTER AND GORE! AWESOME!" like some other violent action films.

I think that's why it has an R rating. Because when someone is stabbed, they are hurting and dying for the rest of the pic. It's not like cut to the next scene and they are hopping in and out of cars without so much as five minute break to lean against something.

It helps that the director, Miller was an ER doc way back when. So, he knows what damage a human body can go through and the effects afterward. It shows.

The majority of things are implied and there's minimal blood. The rating is more about the disturbing content references but anything particularly gory is done offscreen.

I'm pretty squeamish and didn't need to close my eyes or block my ears at any point
