I have to go on antibiotics to kill off an infestation of parasites that are living in my intestines. I'm really afraid of taking pills and throwing up so I don't know how I'll get through it but I'm scared of living with bad things I can't see inside me too. Aaarh!

Are you worried that the pills will make you sick, or do you have difficulty swallowing pills in general, anon?

Both. I already feel gross from being sick with this thing and I have a fear of choking/vomiting so I usually dont bother trying to take pills for anything. The antibiotics they want me to take are pretty strong and they do cause nausea and vomiting for some people.

Ah, okay. Well, fortunately, it's not a given that antibiotics will cause that reaction and I don't think it's a common side effect. Chances are that when the antibiotics have a chance to attack those parasites, you'll feel less sick and nauseated.

In the meantime, maybe stock up on things like ginger tea or candies, peppermint tea, 7-up or Sprite, saltines, etc.

Ask for a suppository instead. See if you can take an ass pill better.

Its funny you're probably a troll but I would much rather stick something up my butt than try to swallow a capsule. lol

Antibiotics? Or, like, a de-wormer? Because "parasite" makes me think of critters a bit bigger than bacteria, and I don'tknow that they'd do any good against tapeworms or whatever. Either way, good luck getting rid of your unwanted guests.

No, that's true. Antibiotics as a class of medicine kill bacteria and nothing else.

Er, no. Otherwise a gun would be an antibiotic. Jeffrey Dahmer would be an antibiotic. Diseases also =/= antibiotic. The meaning of words are more than simply breaking down and misunderstanding the sum of their parts.

Nope. Pharmacy person here. If you're trying to kill parasites like tapeworms or pinworms, those are called anthelmintics, not antibiotics.

Chemotherapy is specifically for the treatment of cancer.

H.pylori needs antibiotics, if it's past the stage where a PPI can catch it. (e.g. bleeding ulcer)

Can't you ask you doctor to prescribe you an anti-emetic? They come in teeny tiny pills, easy to swallow without triggering your gag reflex, you wait 15 to 20 minutes and only then you take the antibiotics.

You can also try to take a bite of something you like first, swallow the antibiotics with a beverage of your choice other than plain water so the taste of it distracts you from the pills, and eat again right after so your oesophagus and stomach don't notice the pills right away.

If you're throwing up FROM the antibiotics you need to A) stop taking them immediately and B) see your/a doctor as soon as you stop taking them,and tell him/her why. DRES reactions suck,but if it's something more serious, you could lose your teeth, your skin (literally, you end up for all intents and purposes like a burn patient) and/or lots of other nasty side effects that can permanently damage you. TL;DR: Nauseous when taking antibiotics? Get that checked out.

But there are some antibiotics that specifically cause nausea. I took doxycycline for a while and I was absolutely miserable taking it if I didn't eat right after swallowing the pill. That's a known side effect, and I didn't go running to my doctor about it.

OP is just worried, that's all. No need to scare them off their medicine. :p

Try to just down them as best as you can. Use as much water as possible, the medicine will help, barring any severe side effects. I had to take anti-fungal medicine believe me it was rough, but I did not want that stuff growing inside my ear any more. You can do it!

Also wanted to not that Anti-fungals are MUCH harsher on your body than most anti-biotics. You will likely be fine!
