I mostly disagree, and I also think that he was a lot more likeable in the show than in the books. Suchet did a great job.

But OP, you may be amused to know that Agatha Christie actually had the exact same opinion of Poirot as you do! Her exact words were "detestable, bombastic, tiresome, ego-centric little creep."

Agreed! I only knew of the character through Suchet's series, and I was surprised at how violent, conniving and mean Book!Poirot could get.

Thirding this the Suchet series was head and shoulders above the books, and I say this as an Agatha Christie fan.
