In real life my parents won't speak to me and I have like two cis friends who actually respect me, so it's nice to know that there are communities where people can sometimes obnoxiously overdo it with the acceptance.
Though back when I couldn't transition trans stories were painful to read and often made me furious because in the end I was jealous of fictional characters getting their lives sorted. Maybe figure out your issues, OP.

All this hate for nonbinary and tucutes comes from the same place of jelousy. Every time I catch myself going "wow this asshole expects people to say "faeself" and goes on and off hormones three times a month because they don't like the body hair, while I had to fight nail and tooth for 15 years to live as an actual REAL woman" And then I check myself and realize that the fae person is emphatically not the problem and move the hell on with my day.

It's really hard for me to take someone seriously when their argument boils down to, "you're just jealous."

NAYRT, but as I see it it's not exactly jealousy. More like being upset that people with less "legitimate" issues than you are accepted while you struggle. That's what "cheapening the issue" usually boils down to.

but people calling their gender "faerie" aren't accepted anywhere but a small corner of tumblr, and they certainly would be laughed out of any real life conversation. their desire to associate themselves and cling onto legitimate trans experiences makes it seem to the larger public that we approve of, or are associated with these weirdoes. or that being trans is somehow comparable to thinking you're a fucking rabbit.
