Season 1 of "Better Call Saul" is superior to season 1 of "Breaking Bad".

Come at me, bro.

Agreed. BCS is just a better show in general.

I don't get it. I fucking loved Breaking Bad but found Better Call Saul... ridiculously slow moving, much less clever, and with zero interesting characters (especially since it was before "Saul" himself became any fun). I just don't get the appeal. I guess the fun of Breaking Bad for me was Walter and Jesse's dynamic, take that away and maybe it would've been lackluster storytelling as well.

But everyone raves about how great Better Call Saul is so idk, I must be missing something.

No, I get what you're saying, and imo a big issue is BrBa is more action-oriented whereas BCS is more character-oriented...so far (to be fair, its rough comparing a single season to a show with multiple seasons). Personally I found Saul and Mike to be two of the very few likeable characters in the original show, primarily because you knew what you were getting with them, and I want to see the story of how they came to be. There doesn't have to be a gun battle or a car chase or something equally dramatic for me as long as the story is good, and so far its been superb, imo.

ayrt Oh I forgot about Mike, he was definitely one of the parts about the show I actually did like. And I guess you're right that it is less action oriented, it's character oriented instead - which of course in theory is a fine way to tell a story, but it relies on the audience being interested in the characters themselves without any outward action to captivate them. Still, it does explain the difference in atmosphere between the two series.

sa

Mike's storyline seems more action-y to me than Jimmy/Saul's does...but imo that goes back to BrBa: Mike was involved in more of the action-based plotlines while Saul (imo) was less so (in fact I thought Saul was more of a comic relief type of figure in the original BrBa series; we saw him here and there but there was never any shots of his personal life or what made him tick, and so on). I should think, as an attorney, even one involved in the shady business that Saul was, he wouldn't really be out there dealing directly with the nitty-gritty shit in the same way someone like Mike or Jesse would have been, hence the more story-based plots for BCS. It seems like a good way to bring the two together though, as the most we've seen Jimmy do is hike through the desert looking for the Kettlemans and run through an alley from the cops, heh.

da, still

Not to mention the original idea for BCS was a 30-minute sitcom!
