I kinda agree. I mean, I recognize that there is a big and important difference on a societal level, but... erasing or changing an essential part of someone, anyone, just so you could sleep with them? That's skeevy as fuck, and it doesn't make a difference to me that "it's just a video game". I couldn't do it to Cassandra any more than I could do it to Dorian.

They're not people, they're characters. They exist as a set of collaboratively created performances saved to disk and presented through a computer system. You change the computer system, you change the character.

Duh. This is about principle, and I don't know if I'm in the minority or what, but I play games to enjoy the story, not to play god and do whatever the hell I want. Or well, if I ever want to do that, I play simulation games.

What principle? They're mods. If you don't want them, don't download them.

And the principle is that I personally find the idea of changing something essential about a person to suit my own selfish desires abhorrent, and as I at least find one of DA's finest qualities its personable and multifaceted characters, it would feel icky and disrespectful to manipulate them to be something they're not. I mean, Cassandra and Dorian don't want to sleep with my Inquisitor because she's a girl? Awesome, I respect that, let's be friends.
Plus, I'd feel I'd disrespect the story and those who created it as well.

Certainly you're allowed to have an opinion, and other people are allowed to find your opinion ridiculous if they involve being unable to distinguish between a person and a character.

Cassandra is a character. There's nothing essential to change. There's no one there to disrespect. She is how she's presented between disk, speakers, and screen.

Especially since we're getting this wank now, after almost twenty years of character-based mods and fanfic.

Well, I've never been a fan of fanfic that makes characters OOC either, so there's that.
