See the worst part is I really don't care about either mod or the implications therein. What I cannot stand is people insisting one is okay and the other makes you trash. It's the same thing.
elaminator: (Dragon Age: Inquisition - Cass)

Ah, well I don't understand that either.

Neither makes you trash, but they aren't "the same thing" either, because "erasing" heterosexuality just doesn't have the same implications that erasing homosexuality does. I think both are perfectly permissible in the game - or rather, it's better to same, making them both bi, not making them no longer into their preferred gender.

Mostly though I can't see how Cassandra being bi would affect her character at all. (Especially since in DA2 she becomes enamored with Hawke regardless of gender during the course of Varric's story) Her sexuality just isn't part of her story. Dorian's, though, blatantly is - to make him "not gay" completely changes his character. But if someone wants to run with the AU that their female Inquisitor was the exception to Dorian's homosexuality, then cool, that's their story, no sweat, but if they tried to argue that Dorian was only bi or even straight, that is when it becomes batshit mad.

DA

""erasing" heterosexuality just doesn't have the same implications that erasing homosexuality does"

Thank you. I don't know why, in arguments like this, that point seems so hard for people to grasp.

They are not the same thing because slash and femslash exist, in part, as commentary on the systematic erasure of LGBT people in culture, from the Mae West-inspired law banning discussion of homosexuality from the stage to this month when multiple valedictorians were barred from graduation ceremonies for coming out.

Never mind the relatively young history of the genre where modding has been often the only way to get LGBT-friendly content into games.

Now, personally, ship and let ship, write and let write, mod and let mod. But constructing a false equivalency between slash and het mods really does not work here.

Not to mention that the Cassandra stans burned any goodwill they might have had by engaging in harassment over a fucking mod.

they're only the "same thing" if you live in another reality where context doesn't exist.

being ignorant or willingly ignoring context in order to equate things isn't being "objective," nor does it make you more intelligent than those ~over-emotional gays~ it just makes you a simple-minded jackass.
