Re: Unpopular Opinions!
(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, when my grandparents grew up, they had some pretty awful beliefs about the Jews (the whole "Jews control banking" BS) because they grew up in a backwards, rather uneducated part of the country but they still risked their lives to hide Jews from the Nazis and smuggle some Jewish children into Spain.
So they were bigoted, but I wouldn't call them bad people.
Certainly, I think they're better people than those who don't hold prejudice against the Jews but don't help them either. People who just left them to their fate but didn't have anything against them.
Also, I would say that an opinion is different than attraction. An opinion is often based on facts, or experience or exposure. But attraction is unconscious. You can't CHOOSE who you are attracted to -- there are a lot of people, for example, who have crushes that they wish they could get rid of.
It's how you treat people that determines if you are a good person. Which was the gist of my first post.
