Re: A different kind of Ask thread
(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)I'll grant that the infant has more potential, but not all potential is realized and honestly, compared to a 1 month old human, my 10 year old dog has more intelligence and emotion at this point in time. The infant is too young even have a sense of self or danger or betrayal, whereas my buddy of 10+ years would be in the fire yelping for help and wondering why I'm walking away from him.
Re: A different kind of Ask thread
(Anonymous) 2015-06-07 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)Plus when I adopted an animal, I made it a promise that I'll look after it and it will be my personal responsibility for the rest of its life. I made that promise and I adopted the animal, I owe it to the pet to do whatever I can. I don't feel that personal responsibility toward a stranger's infant. I didn't sign up to be its protector. I did sign up to be the protector of my pet. I betray no one by not saving an infant, but I do betray myself and an innocent animal by not saving my pet.
That's how I feel on the issue anyway.
