Re: Costumes
(Anonymous) 2015-06-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)More importantly to me, there's something about the fabric choice on Leia that says it probably won't hold up to the stress and strain of actual convention wearing. Most Halloweeny or lingerie-based costumes aren't good for con purposes because the shitty fabric isn't meant for long-term wear, and I don't care how much Lycra is in it, it probably won't fit anywhere as nicely as it seems on the model. Quite the opposite in fact. White spandex fabrics can be extremely see-through, too.
It is a little late to consider commissioning, at least for this year, but if you want something that fits well and looks flattering on you, I do suggest looking into a commissioner. It will cost you more, and deciding on a quality professional who understands fitting larger figures (or, well, all figures equally and without bias) can be a difficult process, but if it gets you an amazing costume that you can wear for years and look fabulous in, it's worth it.
Re: Costumes
I just really wish they'd make more options in larger sizes.
Hopefully next time I go I'll have an actual job and can afford a commissioned costume. I'd love something that looks actually authentic (or close). I'm still on student loans for this year, though.
Re: Costumes
(Anonymous) 2015-06-08 01:08 am (UTC)(link)I feel you on all accounts. For all the "cosplay is for everyone" mindset among geeks, it hasn't trickled down to the merchandisers. They think costumes are only for skinny pretty people. Oh well. Have fun at D*Con!
