I don't ship it because I honestly don't see them as anything but a BROTP. I ship Turk/JD like burning, but I just don't get the same vibe from Gus/Shawn.

No, it's because he's ugly, assuming Gus is the black one. Look at his angular face, creepy fish eyes bulging out like a can full of botulism, and overly thick lips!

The white guy is just plain, so I don't think shipping him would be very interesting. He's like the male version of a basic bitch.

I liked them in a non-shippy way, but tbh, if anyone was a turnoff it was Shawn, who wasn't as funny of a character as the show seemed to think.

No. I think it's just everyone loves them too much like friends/brothers to romantically ship them. It's like everyone sees a little bit of themselves in Gus and Shawn with their friends and therefore, it would be a little too close to home to ship the two.

I have several interracial ships but they are not one of them. Maybe it's because you see them as kids in the show? I just never got a shippy vibe from them. They have chemistry as friends but I just can't see them in a romantic light.

It might also be that they are not my type of pairing. Shawn/Henry and Shawn/Lassiter hit more of my buttons, and if you look at the interracial pairings I do ship, they are more serious in tone. So, there's that too.

Personally, I never really like shipping best friends, regardless of their gender or race. So that's me, at least!

It's not a totally unreasonable idea. Shawn/Lassiter is the most popular pairing from the series and, surprise, two white guys.

BUT, I do think that the reason Gus/Shawn isn't more of a thing is because they were more like brothers. All their interactions screamed it to me. Whereas, Shawn/Lassiter interactions had that extra bit of something (flirtation, I'd say, mostly from Shawn lol) that begged romantic relationship. I dunno that's just my take.

I think your're right. I know some fans who ship only white characters because that's what they find hot.
I like frenemy ships so you can guess my Psych OTP.

Ah, no. They're practically an old married couple already. You can perhaps squeeze out a few of curtainfics from it, but Gus' bitch faces in canon is all the drama there is between them and so the ship gets boring.

Had their black and white friendship been an issue in canon though, that would have been perfect bunny fodder.

I don't like to assume... I think it's perfectly possible that people might not ship them because of their dynamic (the word siblings is being used a lot in this thread, and I can see why). Maybe race is an issue for some people, but the vast majority? IDK.

(All I can say is I shipped them during the 3, maybe 4 episodes I watched.)

I'm 100% sure the reason these type of secrets are so popular is because of wank. Because I KNOW that adding the word "racism" to shipping preferences will bring comments from out of the wookwork.

Yeah, I'm sure the ship would have been *more* popular if Gus had been white, yeah, because there are a lot of fans who don't care about character dynamics, just sex between the two easiest-to-put-together hot white cocks, and it's pretty obvious why those shippers never materialized in Psych fandom.

But I'm sure it never would have been all *that* popular no matter what because of the, as you say, sibling-esque dynamics. There's very little smoldering or intensity to them. Plus, Shawn would need someone who can make him change his behavior or who is as nuts as him, and Gus ain't that person. Gus is the guy Shawn can be at most obnoxious with because he's so comfortable with him, but I'm pretty sure there's loads of that "revertigo" syndrome going on with them -- reverting to your childhood behavior around your childhood friends.

I agree for the most part. The two of them act like a married couple most of the time and fans are often all over that if it's a white guy pairing (Jim/Blair in Sentinel). I can also see it being too much, however, as people also often don't ship obvious couples because it's already main text.

I could only handle three seasons of Psych, but I still like to read fanfic for it. And I'm sure you're right. And I'm also sure this thread will be a defensiveness wallow.

On the one hand, I'm super weak for Childhood BFFs Separated By Life Who Meet Again As Adults And ~Whoa! On the other hand, I'm hardly alone in that (e.g., the Steve/Bucky fic tsunami); it makes no sense to me that Gus/Shawn aren't buried in all the codependency fanfic.

Also SG1. I binged on my mom's first season DVDs one weekend, and the obvious ship seemed obvious. After I regained consciousness I scurried off to find all those O'Neill/Teal'c fics had to exist. That went well.

I can't ship Shawn/Guss because I can't imagine them being able to have sex because the second the pants were off and the erections were out it would devolve into them just yelling "SUCK IT!" "no, YOU suck it!" at each other, then someone would walk in on them, and they'd end up doing a goofy naked dance while pretending they weren't doing anything weird in the precinct, no sir.
