Vivi! He's just so...cute and getting poked in his existential places. I have a strange desire to give him cookies. Also, he can set things on fire.

Amarant's cool. I use him in my party a lot.

Vivi's a constant in my party, too. :D I usually go with Zidane, Dagger, Vivi, and Amarant. I love the others, but I've gotta pick four, so.

I loved how in that game you could hit one of the shoulder buttons and turn almost any spell into a full party/enemy party heal/attack, rather than having some spells that could only heal/attack one person at a time. :O

I do the same, but Eiko instead of Vivi.

That was so useful! It was one of the reasons I used Eiko. When against one enemy she could summon Carbuncle for reflect, then Vivi could cast on the party, and the enemy gets multi-hits :D They made a good team.

I agree. WTF? Everyone hates FF9. I personally like it, but it's generally hated within FF fandom.

I've had a lot of people claim to me that it's not as awesome because Tetsuya Nomura didn't design 9's characters. Personally, that doesn't have any effect on my gaming experience, but to each their own. I love the characters in 9! Although I admit the final boss was very WTF.

Nomura has only done the designs for FFs VII, VIII, X, and Kingdom Hearts though, right? :/ FFVI is probably the third most loved FF after VII and X and the characters were designed by Amano, who also did IX's character designs. So the people saying that are just grasping at straws looking for something not stupid to say.

And yes, they kind of failed at finding something not stupid to say. XD Another excuse I hear all the time is that the game had no plot, which I don't agree with. It just got very screwy right toward the end. They never really did bother to explain why Dagger's pendant was so important, etc. I'm assuming it had to do with the crystal, but... *disolves into incoherent rambling*

I think it's mostly because FFIX has more in common with FFs I though VI rather than VII or VIII. VII and VIII take place in futuristic sci-fi-ish worlds rather than the pseudo-medieval fantasy worlds of the earlier FFs + IX. Combined with IX's unique character models and more than its fair share of odd looking party members, (A monkey tailed thief, a dragoon rat, a gluttonous thing with an ambiguous gender, a classic black mage, a little girl with a horn, and whatever the hell Amarant is) the differences were probably too much for some people to handle.

Though FFVIII got flack for not being FFVII-2 from the FF fans that started with VII. And having the most wtf plot of all FFs to date.

See, I never played any of the older ones (late to the party, is I), but IX was my first so I didn't get any of that expectation stuff. I just went with it. Then I played VIII, then X, then VII (and never finished it).

But technically, IX is sci-fi, too - Zidane and Kuja are aliens! XD Take that!

IX was my first FF too, actually.

And the older FFs of course have sci-fi too. Cecil and Golbez from FFIV are aliens from the moon. (No, srsly) Or at least, they're descended from one. Terra from FFVI is half Esper (summon). Which makes me wish she could be a summon in battle.
