Bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-10 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not even a RDJ fan, but this is total bullshit. He was there to promote a silly movie, not to have his unpleasant past dredged up by some random asshole. It's the equivalent of a distant relative or stranger needling you about your bad judgment calls and mistakes you made in your life, only in front of the entire world.

Maybe you're perfect and never made any mistakes, or maybe you don't have assholes in your life who would randomly give you shit about your past failures when you least expect it, but I happen to know that feels like and let me tell you, it sucks. I nearly cried just watching that "interview" because I could relate so fucking much.

That "random asshole" was a journalist, not Great Aunt Ethel.

I'm sorry you relate that much that you're projecting all over the place, but uncomfortable questions from journalists are a professional hazard, and if RDJ or anyone else can't handle that then either they're in the wrong profession, need help for their deepseated insecurity, or need specify that saccharine and asskissing interviews are the only kind they're willing to do.

There is such a thing as being professional in your job, and that goes both ways for RDJ and the journalist. The journalist's job was to talk to RDJ about the upcoming movie that RDJ is promoting. Instead, this guy decides that it's his moment to try to "go deep" on RDJ. RDJ didn't agree to an interview about his personal life. To RDJ's understanding, this is just a part of the press tour for Avengers Age of Ultron, so it was uncalled for the interviewer to decide to start asking RDJ personal questions that had nothing to do with Age of Ultron.

It's not about kissing someone's ass, it's about being professional at your job. RDJ told the guy that the interview is to promote Age of Ultron, but the guy ignored that, and just continued to ask him questions unrelated to his work.

If you want promotion for your film without any hassle, you don't do an interview with Guru-Murthy, I'm sorry. Maybe no one told RDJ who he was. KGM is a journalist, not a kiss-ass.

I'm not sure what you think journalism is, but it's not asking questions for the sole purpose of making the person you're interviewing uncomfortable. The questions should have some relevance to the subject you're interviewing about, even the hard-hitting ones.

RDJ's past drug use is something that's well known and already been covered. Guru-Murthy wouldn't have gotten any new information out of him and any information he would've gotten wouldn't have had anything to do with the subject of the interview. He wasn't being a journalist, he was being an ass.

>>need specify that saccharine and asskissing interviews are the only kind they're willing to do.

you don't need to specify when you're doing promotional work for a family-friendly superhero movie, that's a goddamn given to everyone except this idiot
