Re: "Gender Queer"

I do think the A should be on the acronym, but I actually kind of agree with this otherwise. The community has become so obsessed with micro-labeling everything that everything's muddled and nothing's getting done. You've got cisgender, straight people demanding to be included under the "queer" umbrella because they're kinky. You've got the whole "tucute"/"truscum" nonsense.

The LGBTA community is not a place to desperately seek a sense of uniqueness, and I loathe that in a lot of ways, it's become that.

But genderqueer identity isn't about uniqueness, any more than trans or gay identity. Yes, there are fringes of the gender conversation that *do* get into that territory, very much so, but the fact is that gender is not a two-category thing, and genderqueer (and nonbinary, which seems to be coming into its own as an umbrella term in this area), is just a term that recognizes that and makes space for people who don't fit into either of the boxes constructed by recent Western culture.

Yes, you can be an asshole about it. But that's a problem with you being an asshole, not with the term genderqueer.
