Because it is an equivalent of things that do happen in real life.

The personality, dialogue and manipulative tactics of the mom in the story? A textbook example of a NPD parent if I ever saw one.

The "dress up my girl like in my animes, so desu kawaii" thing obviously isn't something that you see, like, hopefully ever out in the streets, but the systematic abuse and control depicted in the story are very much real.

It's so melodramatic it seems unreal, but some people really do get that out of control:

Well, good for you if you've never had to deal with a horribly controlling parent who has no respect for you or any regard to your mental health, individuality, and bodily autonomy.

Just because it's OMG MOMZ A WEEABOO doesn't make it any less real. There is always going to be something in fiction people will relate to, whether or not the story is "realistic" enough for your royal anonness.
