Well, I would have made it clear who the character was, if only I wasn't so damn embarrassed by it.

It's one thing to have a crush on a character, but having entire songs reminding me of myself/them does make me feel just a tiny bit pathetic. Not to mention he's an awful character personality-wise, I'm pretty sure I'd get laughed at and/or judged if I said who it was.

Everyone's had at least one weird fandom crush so I'm sure we wouldn't judge you.

Unless it was Ramsay Snow. (kidding!)

What's the difference between "shipping" yourself with someone and just plain having a crush? I am confuzzled

Probably elaborate fantasies involving themselves and the character? When I have a crush on a character I tend to still imagine them with other characters, but I feel like this is still fairly common. There's nothing wrong with it.

Yes, that's it, you're totally right. I do get crushes on characters a lot, but this is the first time I actually think we'd totally hit it off, no matter the differences, so I somehow started shipping myself with them (having elaborate fantasies about them and whole songs to go with those is what makes it really embarrassing for me, I think).

I'm in exactly the same boat if that helps OP. I've even contemplated making a playlist of songs on itunes but I'm worried that might be going a step too far.

I'm curious about what character it is though. Mine's Crowley from Supernatural. No one must ever know that Dean isn't my true favourite, haha.

I agree it's embarrassing, but I'm sure lots of other people have "shipped" themselves with fictional characters. I have with Dr. McCoy from Star Trek! I don't think I had a playlist though.

At least Bones (both old and new) is a kick-ass character, unlike Ollie Reeder (there, I said it). And I don't really have a playlist per se, it's just a few songs that somehow fit in one way or another.

ahhh, but shipping yourself with a character and associating stuff with it is so fun! Even if it feels embarrassing to you, if you enjoy it and it makes you happy, who cares what other people thing?
(i may be a bit biased though because i'm so deep in self-insert hell i've spent probably about $200~ by now commissioning art of a character [who is also a fairly terrible person] and my self insert/me, but. my point still stands)

It's perfectly normal. As long as you don't publish terrible self-insert shipfic, you're golden.

Yes, it really is fun, that's true. I wouldn't personally commission art for this particular ship, but I can understand so-mething like that making someone happy:)
