Introverts who cannot shut up about how special and unique and fragile introverts are.

Ugh, this. I'm introverted as fuck. That doesn't make me special. Also, it isn't an excuse to A) Ignore friends B) Act like you are smarter than anyone else C) Use it as a crutch for your lack of social skills

Do not get me started on your first point. I keep seeing that tumblr post going around about "Sometimes introverts don't want to go out and they cancel last minute because of anxiety AND YOU JUST HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT, YOU UNGRATEFUL EXTROVERTS". Do you know what also causes anxiety? Sitting in a bar for yourself for 30 minutes waiting for someone to show up because they canceled on you without actually letting you know.

Exactly! Yeah, I don't like going out and doing shit. But if I promise someone I am going to do it, I sure as fuck do it.

Also (maybe Tumblr introverts don't get this because they NEVER go out), I usually have a great time once I get there. I might be anxious leading up to it and exhausted afterwards, but it is usually worth it.

Anxiety is different for different people and your experiences may not be any more typical than their experience.

I know, for me, it can go both ways - there are times I can force myself to go and then have a great time, and there are times I force myself to go and I'm a nervous, miserable wreck. And I expect most people who are introverts (or have anxiety issues) are probably somewhere on that spectrum, and that not everyone is in that category where it's almost entirely anticipatory anxiety.

I do agree that it's very rude to just not show up to something - at the very least have the decency to let the person know (and give plenty of warning about it). You can't just ghost.

This. In fact, shit like that is partly how I became more antisocial myself. I just don't trust people not to pull that kind of thing.

(The exception being actual mental health issues and the like.)

This. It also really annoys me when people post actual guides that are basically "how to care for your introvert." Come the fuck on

+ introverts who think all extroverts are vapid frat bros/sorority sluts

Eh. I agree that it's annoying, but I can also appreciate where it comes from.

NAYRT - Yes and no. I like the way some introverts do it, when they just try and explain it - I've done that myself. But the examples I'm reading in the comments... just, no.

I mean I can understand the impulse to feeling insecure because you're introvert, and wanting to pump it up, or to comfort yourself by reading stuff like that.

That doesn't make it right, obviously. I'm just saying I get the impulse.

This. Cheese and rice, we are not made of glass. Quit being such a little bitch. 'How to talk to us introverts' Talk to us like you would to anybody else.

They always post that crap on facebook too, forcing me to take seconds of my day to scroll past their nonsense.

Doesn't that kind of attention seeking disqualify you from being a real introvert, anyway?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No. It doesn't.
