or, you know, we can want both? More good stories featuring women of different body types and hot dudes fucking each other? Wanting one thing doesn't mean the other can't still exist.

Yeah....but OP was talking about fandom particularly fics, AU GIFsets, and shipping.

I know what OP is referring to.

The majority of fandom consists of people who find men attractive. These people are typically women. Women want to see themselves represented, thus they clamor for stories driven by other women. People who are attracted to men often like to see and read about men fucking because that's hot. So, women want positive representation and people in fandom want to also see men fuck. Which is why you can see both people calling for female representation and people posting fanmedia about hot dudes fucking.

Yes, but while they're clamoring for hot dudes fucking, the women they want to be seeing become the less important thing from a business standpoint. Nice to have, sure, but far less important than the hot dudes that keep women coming back.

Film and television is a business. Not a diversity toy box.

That's a decision by the studios, and kind of a bullshit one, and you can't lay it at the feet of the fans.

Just, fuck that shit. Fuck putting all the responsibility for changing the system on the people watching it (and specifically fangirls). Fuck that.

No. Should I throw in a few fucks for good measure?

This doesn't even make any sense in light of Mad Max. A large part of the reason the movie was so beloved was because of the large cast of female characters. If we are given representation, we will come back for that. If we are given fuckable dudes, well, that's just par for the course.

But why should studios try and bring in more female characters if hot male characters attract just as many people? If all they see about on the internet about Jurassic World is how fuckable Chris Pratt is why wouldn't they focus on Chris Pratt more next time

NAYRT
Studios don't care about art. They care about the money that comes from butts in seats and merch.

Honestly, it's a bit of an shitty ouroboros, in a way. We accept what we're given (white dudes), we try and appreciate what we are given (more white dudes) and we continue to be given the same thing over and over. It wouldn't matter if fandom celebrated Claire's character, because we are not as important as the masses in the long run. Studios don't want to please girls and women with representation because we are such a small piece of the puzzle and we accept what they feed us anyway. (We kind of have to also because sometimes they don't like us ending up as their main audience.) Which is why I say we can ask for more representation while talking about how fuckable Chris Pratt is. It's completely normal to talk about how fuckable someone is. Guys do it all the time.

Yet, it's the female fans who are somehow hurting themselves by both asking to see women represented and wanting to see hot guys? Why should the impetus be on us? We should eschew what we are presented because somehow we aren't allowed to ask for representation all the while enjoying our sexuality?

No, fuck that.

The problem I have with what you're saying is it comes across like in order to have more representation of women, straight women have to stop finding guys hot and enjoying looking at them.
