Yeah, I don't feel baited because frankly, I think only shippers or people in fandom see the "OMG TOTALLY THERE SUBTEXT!!!!" Several friends and family members of mine watch the show and see nothing but friends/brothers.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, two of my coworkers (male and female) love Supernatural and have never picked up on any shipping subtext or anything like that. They were extremely baffled by the episodes that discussed the fandom, lol.

+1. That's been my experience, but having spent a long time in fandom, I've noticed that fandom overall does not see friendship, they see shipping. In fandom, friendship almost always seems to translate into a sexual relationship.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not baited, you're just the run of the mill shipper delusional.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
didja even bother to read the fucking secret

(Anonymous) 2015-07-02 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Was yesterday opposite day?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I hate the "it's canon or it's homophobic!!" shippers, honestly. I don't give a fuck if it's canon or not. They'd do it badly if it was canon.

I agree with the secret. I do like the ship a bit (I read a bit of fanfic for it back in the day) but I never saw them as anything more than friends in the actual show.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
After hearing so many people bitch about "queer baiting" on Supernatural, I finally caught up on the show and it's like...really? That's what people harass the actors and creators of the show over? It's embarrassing. Some people's shipping goggles are so tight that they're clearly cutting off the circulation to their brain

There was some stuff in the early seasons with Cas. It was in the writing. Other characters would call out their 'special' relationship. But that ended by season six. And now it's like they have director notes not to acknowledge each other if they're in the same scene unless they need to say lines to each other.

(Although Cas still does things out of loyalty to Dean. (( But it's more like they're friendly ex rather than anything more.))

A+ anon for also using a Dean/Benny picture :)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Dean/Benny is the best. :)

Same, but that's because I didn't see it. I've seen every single episode and I haven't gotten the vaguest inkling at all that Dean is bisexual (and I say this as a bisexual person myself!), so I'm just...colossally confused at the entire thing, tbh. I could maybe, maybe see a hint of it with Benny, but not Cas, and certainly not Sam.

Honestly, I think Dean's way too fucked in the head for any sort of actual romance, regardless of the gender...wasn't that the entire point of his Lisa+Ben arc? Sure, he loved them, but his life was too fucked up to involve them, and he was too fucked up to maintain a "normal life" façade.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The only time I can see "Bi Dean" is the episode with the golem and he was inexplicably falling all over himself around Aaron.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-02 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as much as I ship certain pairings in the show, I don't really see it either. The only thing that's ever kind of thrown me off is the fact that crossroads demons were said at various points in the show to take the form of someone that the summoner would find tempting and attractive and Sam managed to summon a male crossroads demon...two times. Was that ever handwaved/explained?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-02 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Sure you weren't baited. Sure.

And do you wipe Krinke's ass with your nose as well?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Somebody's super hostile this evening.

I think Hannibal pretty much takes the cake when it comes to queerbaiting.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-02 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hannibal and Sherlock are the worst offenders, I think. In Hannibal, they hint at a "special, deep connection" (more than hint, the characters wax poetic about it almost every second episode), but if you read interviews with the writers/actors, they all insist that it's not meant to be interpreted as a sexual thing - I think someone even said something about their relationship being really close and intimate, but it would never cross that line.

In Sherlock, everyone in the bloody show makes jokes about how the two of them are a couple but then turn around and go "no homo". It's like, either hint at it and make it happen, or don't hint at it at all. It honestly feels like the writers are teasing/mocking fans at this point. I'd rather have no subtext than this frustrating "lol no homo" crap they're dishing. The problem is, they don't think of it as "baiting" - the audience is simply said to have their "slash goggles" on a little too tight - and yet if it were a man and a woman with the same level of subtext in their interactions, the two characters would almost certainly become a couple.

Sorry for ranting, it's just that this has been bothering me for quite a while. Feel free to ignore it.

I read through all these comments hoping someone else saw an anal hook at first when they looked at this secret.

Nope. Just me I guess.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-05 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
I never felt baited nor thought they were anything more than just friends. And the fact that I'm "insulting someone as bisexual"/"erasing [their[ bisexuality" etc for not thinking the show queerbaits is utter bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-13 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't wait for the Great Destieler Meltdown when the show ends with Dean and Cas NOT getting together.
