I was combing through the Harry Potter highest rated stories. I saw one that by summary was about Harry being subjected to sexual abuse by the Dursleys. It was long and highly ranked so I decided to give it a try. This fanfic turned into this poor kid getting raped and sexually assaulted everywhere he turned. It was ridiculous and insensitive. It was the "rape as plot" trope condensed into one fic. I was reading out of horror and disbelief.

At one point, he listed everything that happened to him, and it took him an entire paragraph to just list all of the names! I had to stop reading because it was so stupid.

I don't and I'm on mobile. I'm sure you could find it if you went on AO3, went under the rape warning tag, and sorted by length.

I've seen the same thing in some h/c fics. E.g., character gets injured, breaks a bone, taken to hospital, develops infection. Hospital catches fire, character tries to crawl out, gets burns and has to be hospitalized for that, then develops debilitating anxiety, while meanwhile, a gunman breaks into the rehab facility and takes everyone hostage, and further injures our already injured-injured-injured hero. You know the drill. ;)

It can just become utterly ludicrous how some of them heap on the abuse.

In fandom, there are obviously a lot of inexperienced writers, and some of them should seriously consider the 'less is more' idea.

I've seen summaries for a surprising amount of non-con fics involving Carl's actor from the Walking Dead. I don't really have an issue with RPF in general, but it's just disgusting to write fic like that about a real child actor. I have a pretty high tolerance for shit in fanfic, but that genuinely upset me

I've seen one too many WWII-set fics where one half of the pairing is Jewish and the other half is a Nazi and they meet at a concentration camp. I'm sure the stories could be well written; they just makes me super uncomfortable.

I agree completely. I cannot stomach those fanfics. I read one where it was a brief AU thing (a multiple lives sort of deal) and even that was too much.

ugh yeah, those are generally awful. like, I'm not one of those people who think that people should be forbidden from writing holocaust fic or anything but I avoid them like the plague because they're mostly kind of gross/clearly trying to wring tears from their audience in a way that comes off as emotionally manipulative

I feel guilty for reading Cartman/Kyle WWII fic with this premise when I was younger. Yeah.

well, at least that one makes sense since kyle is already jewish and it's hardly a stretch to see cartman as a nazi (hell, he's even dressed up as hitler on the show before. possibly more than once iirc). most of the time, people do it with really random characters

Getting bad flashbacks to that infamous Kingdom Hearts fan fic here ("If I Was Your Nazi", I think it was called)... I honestly don't know how ANYONE can bring themselves to write toxic sludge like that, regardless if they're taking the piss or are being completely serious about it.

ngl, I would not have guessed that this link was for a fic about werewolves causing AIDS. There's not much in fanfic that surprises me anymore, so I'll give them props for that. I mean, it was awful on so many levels, but I'll still give them props

I kinda want to know if this was supposed to be serious or not because it did not feel that way. I found it definitely creepy but also entertaining in a cracky way?

I didn't actually read it, but I remember being seriously offended by the summary for a My Little Pony fanfic about a zebra prostitute. (Apparently, others felt the same--it had a metric fuckton of downvotes.)

A Doctor Who fic where Rose repeatedly raped and abused the Meta - Crisis Doctor and ultimately left him for dead. I noped out after the first chapter as it was clear it was a Rose bashing fic. I'm not saying Rose couldn't treat the Meta - Crisis Doctor badly after Journey's End, but this fic just seemed to push her way OOC.

TW child rape

It was a Supernatural fic based on an AU premise: Castiel keeps possessing a twelve year old girl and he and Dean continue their sexual relationship like before.

The thing that made me angry was that they never mentioned if the girl was still awake and alive or not. Dean angsted a bit about the cultural stigma of child rape but eventually realised that his and Castiel's beautiful true love was enough for him to not care about it. Sam reacted to walking in on them during sex with "Oh you guys, I knew you were in love and you have my blessing"

Then they started having children, and this too was described positively.

Oh, I almost forgot the most WTF moment. Dean's attraction to the prepubescent girl form was explained as "Well, he's always been more attracted to women than men."
